Traditional Indonesian Meditation

Meditation, Healing and Tenaga Dallam or Internal Energy studies. Ancient breathing techniques and Indonesian Yoga, relaxation meditation and healing techniques, Guided Meditation and Chakra awareness, to help keep yourself at the highest levels of mental and physical health

Tenaga Dallam is a term we use to refer to internal energy, Prana or Chi. Tenaga Dallam is not just electricity or bio-energy. It is energy with intelligence. Every move you make, every thought and every second of your life you are working with and giving and recieving this energy at all times. It is my goal to make you aware of these energies so that you may fulfill your god given right to be in conscious control of all aspects of your existence so that you may live a full, enriched life that brings a lightness and sense of peace to your spirit and benifits all you come into contact with.

We have four general categories of Meditation excersizes but as you progress the lines tend to blur. Below is a very brief introduction into each aspect:

(1) Dynamic Tenaga Dallam Excersizes: These are moving, dynamic excersizes, designed to awaken and begin to give you an awareness of the energies of the body and how to manipulate them. These practices are not very difficult and help to build energy and are very beneficial for your health.

(2) Seated Tenaga Dallam Excersizes: Excersizes for accumulating, redirecting, and conserving Tenaga Dallam, and awareness and control of the Coiling Center in the lower abdomen. More attention to details are emphisized here. Some excersizes are even done on the purely mental plane. These practices focus mostly on holding on to the energy collected and using it consciously.

(3) Expanding Awareness and Sensitivity: Excersizes ranging from physical and energy sensitivity to fighting awareness. Some Shamanic excersizes and Trance-like states are used to help you to have a deeper connection to the subconscious, and a greater level of awareness in all aspects of your life, however our main focus is put into fighting, healing, and knowing and feeling the connection between ourselves and our environment.

(4) Samadi: These excersizes are simple ways to experience a glimpse of Samadhi or Meditative Absorbtion. These excersizes may have a more spiritual feel yet they do not involve or require the practice of any one Religion. For those interested in making themeself a better person by establishing a deeper sense of well being and sense of equilibrium that is unconditional.

8 Principals of PCK

1. Deception: Includes Decoying, Camouflage and Stealth techniques. Making yourself appear to be vulnerable or using baits and feints to entice your opponent into a false sense of confidence. Also includes Off Timing (mental, visual and auditory) "Steal your Opponents Awareness", indirect vision and indirect hitting.

2. Destruction: "Destroy or Get Out" The systematic destruction of your opponents incoming attacks beginning with Joints, Muscles and then finally Nerve Destructions. Hunting the opponents limbs (arms and legs).

3. Penetration: This is the ability to close within striking range of the opponent, (taking their space) and the proper way of striking the opponent so that the target is broken, destroyed or put out of action.

4. Adhesion: Sticking blows, sticking to the opponent. Once you enter the opponent’s space with the principle of penetration, you never give that space back. Includes the use of tarik (pulling) and dorong (pushing) to off-balance and sweep opponent to the ground, sticking to them the entire time, pinning them and finished with multiple strikes.

5. Compacting: Utilizing your body as a weapon by collapsing one blow into another (the secret of kilap and poison hand). Small arcing blows flowing one into another with no wind-up or pulling back.

6. The Thorn: The rose is a beautiful flower but when you go to grab the stem you get stuck by a thorn. The thorns of your body are your knees and elbows. When an opponent throws in a strike they will naturally get impaled by the thorns of our body.
7. Bamboo: Utilizing core awareness and angulation of the body to be flexible like bamboo and help develop “Mad Rooster" and Ricochet Hitting. Bending the body to angle and give with the opponents blows, without backing up or retreating and snapping back immediately with strikes.

8. Body Armor: Positioning your body to protect yourself at all times; also called “Stationing”. Always covering yourself utilizing both arms, both legs and body position in regards to your opponent. If one hand is high, then one is low, etc.

Overview

Pukulan Cimande Kombinasi(PCK) is a style of Indonesian Pencak Silat developed and taught by Guru Besar Jerry Jacobs. Pencak Silat is a general term used to describe martial arts that come from the island nation of Indonesia."Pukulan" denotes "hitting" or "striking". "Cimande" is a well known style of Pencak Silat in Western Java[1]. "Kombinasi" can be translated as "combination".Pukulan Cimande Kombinasi is a full-range martial art. It includes the use of several edged and impact weapons, fighting while in a grounded position, grappling and multiple opponents training. The style of fighting is distinguished by free flowing, writhing movements, off-timing, integrated footwork and draw stance strategies. It is also characterized by a close fighting position and fast continuous hitting. The strategy is to close with the opponent such that it is possible to sweep them to the ground in a violent way, then follow this attack with some kind of finishing technique. There is heavy emphasis on attacking the limbs of the opponent, and delivering fast disorienting strikes to the face, followed by more substantial strikes to the head and body.

Style Content

The style is organized around the use of five primary animal techniques- monkey, tiger, snake, crane and dragon. The monkey (Monyet, Kera) portion of the style uses slaps, grabs, punches and elbows, changing position from high to low.The tiger (Pamacan) utilizes a very low stance, and seeks to smash the opponents limbs and drag him down to continue the fight on the ground. The tiger also fights in a full supine (Harimau) position where the practitioner is lying fully on the ground. The snake (Ular) style comes in two varieties, cobra (Sendok) and python (Sawa). The cobra style uses half-fists to deliver fast strikes to the eyes and soft body tissues, and the python attempts to strike then wrap the opponent's limbs and body to break, strangle and throw them. The crane (Blekok) style uses high stances and leaps, together with open hand strikes. And Lastly, the dragon (Raja Naga) is a synthesis of the other four animals, together with a strategy of deployment which emphasizes internal techniques and highly deceptive movements. The movements of the art are also taught according to a secret method which leads to an increase in 'tenaga dalam'(energy)in the body.

Pukulan Cimande Kombinasi also has a system of meditation and metaphysical development which includes meditations designed to draw the four elements (water, earth, fire, air) into the body for various combative and spiritual purposes, and the practice of animal spirit possession, in order to aid fighting skill. Mantras and magic circles are used, along with a highly developed system of visualization and breathing.

Main influences

Pukulan Cimande Kombinasi is based on Guru Besar Jerry Jacobs extensive training over the past 20+ years with various teachers of the Indonesian Martial Arts and the combination of these sources:

Silat Panglipur - This Style is taught by Kang Cecep Arif Rahman and is a combination of West Javanese/ Sundanese Silat systems including but not limited to Cimande, Sera, Cikalong. Sabandar, Pamacan, Pamonyet. Kang Cecep has helped us reconnect to our roots in Cimande and Sera with his extensive knowledge and direct Lineage.

Poekoelan Tjiminde - This is the style of Pencak Silat propagated by Willy Wetzel, a Dutch-Indonesian Master who brought the art to the United States. A handful of schools in the United States teach variations of 'Poekoelan' as it is also known. This is where our 4 animal systems come from (monkey, tiger, snake and crane) with the culmination of the Dragon or Raja Naga. Guru Jim Wetzel (Willy Wetzel's son) still teaches his father's art at his school in Pennsylvania. I feel honored and privledged to have learned some of the fundamentals of Poekoelan Tjiminde directly from Guru Jim Wetzel.

Pukulan Cimande Pusaka - This is the style of Pencak Silat propagated by Pendekar William Sanders as passed down from his teachers, Guru John Malter (student of Willy Wetzel) and Pendekar Eddie Jafri. This is the Sera, Cimande, Cikalong, Sabandar influence from the Man Jud Lineage.

Cimande Tarik Kolot - Cimande Pusaka, Sera and Pamacan as taught in the village of Tarik Kolot by Pendekar Mama Sukarma, who traces a direct lineage to Embah Kahir. I recieved the title of "Guru" in Cimande Tarik Kolot from Pendekar Sukarma in traditional Cimande Pusaka, Sera and Pamacan.

Sera Kombinasi - This is a style created by Mas Jud in the twentieth century, based upon traditional Sera, Cimande, Cikalong, the five animal silat styles, and other sources. It is currently taught by Mas Jud's descendants living on Java in the town of Cilisung. This is the original river source of Willy Wetzel's art of Poekoelan Tjiminde and ultimately the original river source of Pukulan Cimande Kombinasi.

Ilmu Surapati - Pendekar Sartono claims inheritance of a lineage of Ilmu (mystical science) which traces its origin to Untung Surapati. This is where the Master Key of our system, the Circle of Creation comes from as passed down to Pendekar Sanders and then to me.
